BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners pursuant to Minn. Stat. §465.03 hereby accepts a donation of $20,000 from Minnesota Vikings Social Justice Fund to fund juvenile programs, educational materials, and related expenditures to benefit Juvenile Detention Center residents, and also accepts the responsibility of administering the funds on behalf of Hennepin County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Controller, shall transfer such funds to the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR); and that a supplemental appropriation of $20,000 be made to the 2021 DOCCR budget; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the sponsorship and acceptance of this donation for this program by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners does not imply a continued funding commitment by the county for this program when funds are no longer available. |

Ten Minnesota Vikings players visited the Department of Community Corrections & Rehabilitation’s (DOCCR) Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) in October 2018, volunteering their time to meet with residents, sharing their stories and offering them encouragement and motivation. Many players made follow up visits, receiving heartfelt thank you letters from residents in return. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vikings players have continued to be engaged virtually with the JDC youth. The seed for these donations from the Minnesota Vikings Social Justice Fund stems from this ongoing connection.
In 2019, the Minnesota Vikings Social Justice Fund contributed $40,000 (Resolution 19-0057). DOCCR used these funds to enhance its existing juvenile programs, and to purchase additional education materials and recreational equipment. This year’s donation will cover the cost of an art therapy program, gym and yoga equipment, as well as life skills and parenting program materials. A portion of the donation may be used to similarly benefit residents at the DOCCR’s County Home School.
