WHEREAS, National Correctional Officers Week is observed annually during the first full week of May; and
WHEREAS, National Correctional Officers week was originally designated by President Ronald Reagan under Proclamation 5187, which was enacted on May 5, 1984; and
WHEREAS, it is designed to provide correctional employees, particularly direct contact line staff, the respect and recognition that they deserve; and
WHEREAS, the dedicated staff, teachers, and medical personnel of the Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility and the Juvenile Detention Center work together to operate safe and secure facilities that focus on behavior change and promotes a safer Hennepin County, while improving the lives of our clients; and
WHEREAS, the dedicated employees and volunteers at the Hennepin County jail make an important contribution to public safety and the criminal justice system and help operate the largest jail in Minnesota, including developing innovative approaches to operations and maintaining highly professional personnel who treat those detained with compassion, dignity and respect.
