Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED, that the following Agreements for services to children at risk for truancy and/or educational neglect through the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Be@School Program during the contract period of July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 with a combined total NTE of $932,000 be approved:

PR00004405 with Centro Tyrone Guzman in the amount of $70,000

PR00004397 with Division of Indian Work in the amount of $120,000

PR00004406 with East Side Neighborhood Services in the amount of $85,000

PR00004400 with Ka Joog in the amount of $35,000

PR00004403 with Legal Rights Center, Inc in the amount of $45,000

PR00004407 with Lutheran Social Services in the amount of $65,000

PR00004399 with Minnesota CarePartner, LLC in the amount of $50,000

PR00004396 with New Youth Programs in the amount of $35,000

PR00004410 with NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, Inc in the amount of $30,000

PR00004408 with Phyllis Wheatley Community Center in the amount of $72,000

PR00004398 with Project Diva in the amount of $60,000

PR00004401 with Sabathani Community Center in the amount of $35,000

PR00004404 with The Link in the amount of $130,000

PR00004402 with Young Men's Christian Association of the North in the amount of $70,000

PR00004409 with YWCA of Minneapolis in the amount of $30,000; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the total combined funding available for all 15 vendors shall not exceed $932,000; that the department will manage the contract expenditures with this funding allocation; that the Chair of the Board be authorized to sign the Agreements on behalf of the County; and that the Controller be authorized to disburse funds as directed.


Background: Be@School focuses on addressing barriers to school attendance. Hennepin County is committed to equitable academic outcomes across racial and cultural groups. This board action request aligns with Hennepin County disparity reduction efforts by supporting educational opportunities for all students residing in Hennepin County. The target population is students between the ages of 5-17. Vendors assess the barriers to school attendance, monitor school attendance and encourage school relationships and engagement. To address the barriers, vendors provide culturally responsive, voluntary, short-term services which are family focused. Vendors provide support to parent(s)/guardian(s) and assist in referrals to a wide range of county and community resources. This board action request consists of 15 contracts with a combined “not to exceed” (NTE) amount of $932,000. The providers are Centro Tyrone Guzman Division of Indian Work East Side Neighborhood Services Ka Joog Nonprofit Organization Legal Rights Center Lutheran Social Services Minnesota CarePartner, LLC New Youth Programs NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, Inc. Phyllis Wheatley Community Center Project Diva Sabathani Community Center The Link YMCA of the North YWCA of Minneapolis.
