Board Action Request
22-0301

Item Description:
Amd 1 to Agmt A2110682 with the MN Dept of Public Safety for the 2020 Urban Area Security Initiative grant, ext, end date to 12/31/22
Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED, that Amendment 1 to Agreement A2110682 with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for the 2020 Urban Area Security Initiative grant, extending the end date to December 31, 2022 with no change to the receivable amount of $829,500, be approved; that the Chair of the Board be authorized to sign the Amendment on behalf of the county; and that the Controller be authorized to distribute funds as directed.

Background:

Since 2004, the Federal Emergency Management agency and the Minnesota Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management has designated Hennepin County as part of a major urban area eligible for receipt of Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant funding. This grant is for the purpose of increasing readiness levels and response capabilities of the emergency management community to deal with major disasters and incidents.

Emergency Management obtained the 2020 UASI grant in January of 2021 in the amount of $829,500. Due to COVID-19, civil unrest and other disasters of 2021 and 2022 Emergency Management was unable to use all the funds in the original timeframe, therefore an extension was granted by the State of Minnesota, Department of Homeland Security.

This board action request supports emergency planning and preparation work aligned with Hennepin County disparity reduction efforts in support of cities, special jurisdictions and county departments.
