BE IT RESOLVED, that pursuant to Minn. Stat. 375.47 and other applicable law, the Hennepin County Open and Unclassified Service Appointments Policy be amended to provide that members of boards and committees that advise the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners may be paid a per diem allowance in lieu of expenses not to exceed $50 for each meeting of the board or committee up to two (2) meetings per calendar month, and a mileage allowance, unless statute sets a different requirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Administrator is delegated authority to take steps necessary to implement the above-mentioned payments and any necessary changes to Hennepin County’s Open and Unclassified Service Appointments Policy.

Minnesota Statute 375.47 now provides that the board of county commissioners of each county may, by resolution, set a reasonable allowance for expenses or a per diem allowance in lieu of expenses and a mileage allowance to be paid the members of boards or agencies authorized by statute, and members of advisory boards or committees, performing duties for all or part of the county, when the board or agency does not itself have power to make expense allowances for its members.
Hennepin County’s Open and Unclassified Service Appointments policy states a commitment to remove as many barriers as possible to service on board and committees. Providing a per diem allowance and a mileage allowance to appointed members of these board and committees is one way to address barriers. | |
