Background:
A2211388 – State of Minnesota, 4th Judicial District, DWI Court, Ignition Interlock Funding; $14,027
Since 2013, Hennepin County has participated in the Integrated Judicial and Administrative Ignition Interlock Program, a pilot program funded by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS). Increased use of ignition interlock devices among offenders convicted of driving while intoxicated (DWI) has been shown to reduce recidivism and increase legal driving.
In Hennepin County, DPS’ target population for this program is supervised by the DWI Court. Although eligible to drive legally with ignition interlock devices installed, many DWI Court clients have not utilized ignition interlock devices because of the significant expenses associated with both installation of the equipment and monthly monitoring fees. This grant program subsidizes the ignition interlock installation costs and monthly monitoring fees for DWI Court participants up to a total subsidy of $500 per client.
This grant requires that DOCCR provide a local match of $3,380 which is 20 percent of the grant program costs.
Funding from this agreement is included in the Department’s approved 2022 budget and programmed in the 2023 budget.
