Item Description:
Declaring September 15 – October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month in Hennepin County – offered by Commissioner Conley

WHEREAS, the people of Hennepin County and the United States honor the contributions and achievements of the Latino community with indigenous roots and born from this continent and descendants from Spain; and  

 

WHEREAS, as Hennepin County recognizes and seeks to build equity for all people, we acknowledge and embrace the idea that all people and systems, including our own county government, are increasingly dependent on one another. When we come together, recognize and celebrate differences in our cultures, values, ways of thinking, we can find new ways of solving challenging issues and building better solutions to the people we serve; and  

 

WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the celebrations of Independence Day in many Latin American countries—including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile; and  

 

WHEREAS, Hennepin County benefits from the many contributions that employees with Latin American and Hispanic heritage provide across all lines of business, and their work in enhancing the health, safety and quality of life of our residents and communities; and  

 

WHEREAS, employees of Latin American and Spanish heritage communities and their allies are creating the Unidos Employee Resource Group, which seeks to foster community, visibility and professional development for members and allies and promote a diverse and inclusive workplace; therefore,  

Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims September 15 – October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month and acknowledges all Latin American and Hispanic residents and our county employees.
