Item Description:
Authorize gifts with naming rights at new Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. clinic and specialty center
Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED, that in accord with the Joint Policy of Hennepin County, Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. (HHS) and Hennepin Health Foundation (HHF) concerning the naming of assets at HHS, the following Gift Agreements be approved:

  1. A gift agreement with the Wanzek Family for $175,000, with a naming of the Breast Center on the main level of the Clinic & Specialty Center as the “Wanzek Family Breast Care Center.”

  2. A gift agreement with Gaylan and Mary Rockswold for $1,500,000, with a naming of the part of the Clinic & Specialty Center used for the Traumatic Brain Injury Outpatient Program as “Part of the Rockswold Family Traumatic Brain Injury Center.”

Background:

In 2015, the county board approved a Joint Policy with HHS and HHF concerning the naming of assets at HHS. Among other things, this policy requires the approval of the Boards of all three entities of a gift involving an amount over $100,000.

HHF is pleased to be able to present two gifts which exceed this threshold. Both gifts have already been approved by the HHF and HHS Boards.

The first of these gifts is an irrevocable pledge of $175,000 from members of the Wanzek family, payable in 2017. $50,000 of the gift is restricted for use in securing art for the breast center in the Clinic & Specialty Center (which is now under construction), from Valerie Carpender, an artist selected by the family and agreed to by HHS. The remaining $125,000 is available for general use by HHF in support of HHS. The gift would be recognized by the naming of the breast center on the main level of the Clinic & Specialty Center the “Wanzek Family Breast Care Center.”

The second gift is from Gaylan and Mary Rockswold and is a pledge of $1,500,000 to support the needs of Hennepin County Medical Center in connection with the Traumatic Brain Injury Outpatient Program. The Rockswolds have previously given funds that support the Rockswold Kaplan Endowed Chair for Traumatic Brain Injury Research. This new gift further supports the work of the Traumatic Brain Injury Program at HHS and would be recognized by the naming of the outpatient portion of that clinic as “Part of the Rockswold Family Traumatic Brain Injury Center.” The funds are to be used under the guidance of leadership in the Traumatic Brain Injury Center, and that use must be consistent with the policies of the Foundation and the hospital.
