Item Description:
Agmt A177941 with the MN Dept of Public Safety to provide $280,000 in grant funding for African American advocacy services and direct client assistance, 10/01/17-09/30/19
Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED, that Agreement A177941 with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, accepting $280,000 in grant funding for African American advocacy services and direct client services for the period October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2019, be approved and that the Chair of the Board be authorized to sign the grant agreement on behalf of the County; and the Controller be authorized to disburse the funds as directed.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the sponsorship and acceptance of grant funding for this program by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners does not imply a continued funding commitment by the county for this program when grant funds are no longer available.

Background:

The Victim Services Division (VSD) of the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has 32 advocates providing services to victims of crime. Demand for these services is great. Though the VSD has a bilingual, bicultural staff who serve underserved populations, community relationships are enhanced by two advocates who will focus on services to the African American community.

The grant requires a match of $53,970.

Recommendation from County Administrator: Recommend Approval
