Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED, that Agreement A189248 with the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice for services to individuals suffering mental illness for the period January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2021 in the receivable amount of $749,654, be approved; that the Chair of the Board be authorized to sign the Agreement on behalf of the county; and that the Controller be authorized to accept and disburse funds as directed, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that sponsorship and acceptance of grant funding for this program by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners does not imply a continued funding commitment by Hennepin County for this program when grant funds are no longer available.

Background:

Through this project, Hennepin County will expand an innovative Behavioral Health Care Center model that successfully diverts hundreds of individuals with severe mental illness from arrest and detention. The Center functions as a law enforcement transfer point diverting individuals with severe mental illness away from involvement in the criminal justice system and into immediate and ongoing community services.

Funds will expand case managers and peer recovery specialists contracted from community mental health providers who will enroll an estimated 200 Center users with services and supports at the new Behavioral Health Center at 1800 Chicago Avenue. Funds will also support a case management assistant already employed by the County.
